Amorphophallus : One of The tallest Flowers in The World
Rafflesia might be claimed as the biggest flower in the world but Bukit Lawang still has a giant flowering plant called Amorphophallus. This plant is one part of arum family and it can be called as arum lilies though they are not related at all with lily flowers. It can grow from small to the largest inflorescence flower in the world. The titanium types can be flower Sumatra especially Leuser Mountain. The early step of growing, the flower became from seed and then the stem will grow. The leaf will capture sunlight like other green plants using photosynthesis and it will be kept inside tuber. Leaf and stem will die after some months but the tuber is still there. After some period of times, the tuber will go higher and grow.
Find Rafflesia as The Biggest Flower in The World at Bukit Lawang
Have you ever seen the biggest flower in the world? What if you find it in Indonesia? The fact is Sumatra especially in the North region has the biggest and rarest flower called Rafflesia. But it is included in the parasitic plants and you can find it in South East Asia such as Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and of course Indonesia. This flower has no stems, leaves and roots. The bud needs about many months to grow before flowering in six to nine months. However, the flower itself only lasts just for a week. Though it is claimed to be the biggest flower in the world, there are about thirty species are known. This flower has sister families called Rhizanthes that can be found in Sumatra especially Bukit Lawang and Sapria that are not growing in Indonesia.
Other characteristic you need to know is Rafflesia has foul and bad smell that can attract flies to get closer. Flies on the flowers are known as the pollinators. However, some of you may think that this flower is carnivorous like others big plants on TV show. It is totally wrong though it can attract flies. They are not going to be eaten by flower at all. Within the national park, Micropylora can be found at batu Katak and you just need 40 minutes to get it from Bukit Lawang. Arnoldi Var Atjethensis is know from Aceh, Lokop. Rochussenii is coming from Mount Leuser and Lawangensis is in Bukit Lawang where the trip takes 3-4 hours, the cost is from 25 Euros/person, we walk exploring a part Bukit Lawang to see rafflesia and other primates, like Birds or other species of monkeys.
